Speechley-Price Lifts Saints Clear Of Mohawk

By Jay Shewfelt

(HAMILTON, ON) – The St Clair Saints defeated Mohawk 1-0 on a day when the Saints were not at their best.

The men managed to pull off the win after playing to a scoreless draw in the first 45. Mohawk, however, out shot St Clair 4-1 and held a 9-4 edge in shot attempts.

The Saints scored the winning goal one minute into the second half on a nice shot by Leighton Speechley-Price. Mohawk dominated play for the rest of the game, but keeper Shane Beaton was outstanding to turn aside several great Mohawk chances.

The win improved the Saints record to 5-1 while Mohawk is now 3-3 on the season.

The men next play on Wednesday at 5:00pm when they travel to London to take on the Fanshawe Falcons. Fanshawe is tied for first  place in the OCAA West Division with St Clair and are ranked 4th in Ontario and 14th in Canada, while the Saints are ranked 3rd in Ontario and 11th in Canada.
