(WINDSOR, ON) – The Windsor Lancers bettered their record on the 2016 OUA football season to 2-3 and remained in the hunt for post-season play after a 51-30 win over the Toronto Varsity Blues at Alumni Field on Saturday.
Casey Wright was back at the helm for Windsor and directed the Lancer offense to three aerial touchdowns on 17-for-30 passing, and scrambled for another. Tarrance Crawford led all rushers with 28 carries and 184 yards, and provided Windsor with two TDs on the ground.
Cassel Jones (2) and Jeff Masson were on the receiving end of Wright passes for major scores while Nick Vincent rushed for the other Lancer TD.
The teams were tied at 8 apiece at the end of the 1st quarter before Windsor turned on the jets and pulled away to a 36-22 lead at the end of 3. However, Toronto made it interesting as they got within 6 points early in the 4th, but Crawford dashed a yard for a score and Jones iced it with a 35 yard catch and run with under three minutes on the clock.
The win places Windsor in a 3-way tie for 6th place, with York and Queen’s, in the OUA.
The Lancers head to Ottawa for a Friday matchup with Carleton, which can be seen live on OUA TV. Windsor is 4 points behind the Ravens and have one game in hand.
