(CHATHAM, ON) – In their final tune-up before the Calgary Tournament, the Windsor Lancers worked out early-game kinks to run away with a 97-59 result against the Fanshawe Falcons at the St Clair College Health-Plex in Chatham.
Micqueel Martin led the way with a game-high 16 points while veteran Mike Rocca was right behind with 15. First year forward Anthony Zrvnar contributed 13 in the winning cause.
A day later the Lancers were winging their was westward to partake in the Dinos’ annual Calgary Cup basketball tournament. The hosts made short work of the Lancers in their 1st game, 99-64, with jetlag, no doubt, playing a part in the performance.
Martin and Rocca again led the offense with 16 and 12 points, respectively, with Tyler Persaud chipping in 11. Persaud, Chris Poloniato, and Lucas Orlita each hauled down 6 boards.
On Friday, the Lancers switched venues to Kenyon Court at Mount Royal University where they tipped off against the second home team in as many days. With their legs underneath them, Windsor disposed of the Cougars 95-83.
The 3rd-year guard out of North York, Martin again led all scorers with 26 points on 11 of 18 shooting from the floor. Communications major Djordje Babic put up 12 points while Pim Hurkmans and Lucas Wood added 11 apiece.
Rocca narrowly missed out on a double-double with 9 points and 9 rebounds.
Back at Kenyon Court for game 3, the Lancers were pitted against the Regina Cougars, finishing the tournament at 2-1 with a 70-67 win.
For the fourth straight game Martin was high shooter with 22 points while also swiping 6 steals. Rocca put up 18 points and Zrvnar 10.
The Lancers return home to face the NCAA DIII Carroll University Pioneers of Waukesha, WI, on October 18. Tipoff is at 6:00pm.
