Saints Stay Atop OCAA

(ETOBICOKE, ON) – The St Clair Saints men’s baseball team moved their record to 11-3 atop the OCAA standings after splitting at Humber (8-6) in Etobicoke, at Connorvale Park, Sunday. The Saints won the opening game by a score of 2-1 but fell 6-5 in the second game of the doubleheader.

Windsor’s Shane Courtney pitched a complete game, 3-hitter for St Clair in the opener and walked no batters in a great performance. Max Ayarza, of Bocas del Toro, Panama, and Newmarket’s Kevin Dion each had a pair of hits in the victory for the Saints.

But Eric Cunningham and Matt Bassingthwaighte supplied the RBI singles to account for all the St Clair scoring.

In Game 2, St Clair took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning, but fell behind 3-1 by the 3rd, and then 6-3 in the 4th. The Saints made it interesting by getting to within a run in the 6th inning, but could not get anyone on base in the 7th inning.

The Saints will host a doubleheader Friday versus Seneca with game times at 6:00 and 8:00pm. Saturday they meet George Brown at 1:00 and 3:00pm.

All games are at Lacasse Park in Tecumseh.

They cap their OCAA regular season schedule with a doubleheader at Durham in Oshawa on Sunday. it will complete a very busy stretch for the Saints who will also travel to Warren, MI, to face Macomb today for an exhibition doubleheader.
