(LONDON, ON) – The St Clair women’s basketball team ended a long drought in London, on Tuesday night, defeating Fanshawe Falcons 72-65. The win moves their OCAA West Region leading record to 5-0 on the season.
“Fanshawe is a very strong team,” said Saints head coach Andy Kiss. “A quick team, predominantly man-to-man defense like us, but we’ve got some posts who can settle the game down and do some nice inside work.”
The Lady Saints had not won at Fanshawe’s gym since the 2008-09 season, ending a 7-game skid in London. Fanshawe was the #15 nationally ranked team in the latest poll, which will give some consideration to the Saints moving forward.
St Clair was ahead 31-29 at halftime, and relinquished the lead briefly in the fourth quarter, but had enough in the tank to outlast Fanshawe down the stretch.
Third-year Saints forward Nicole Tamm came off the bench to score a game-high 21 points and leading her team to the hard fought victory. Tamm was a stat filler adding 5 rebounds and 6 blocks to go with 4 assists.
Shannon Kennedy scored 16 points and narrowly missed a double-double with 9 rebounds.
Elena Caldarelli had a nice shooting game, scoring 13 points, and Aleah Marton was impressive with 12 points to go with 10 boards and 5 helpers.
The Saints put their streak on the line as they host Mohawk Mountaineers tonight at 6:00pm. If you can’t make it to the game, watch all the action live on WE-TV.
