(DALLAS, TX) – The Detroit Lions are under the gun to make the playoffs after suffering a 42-21 defeat at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys Monday night in Texas. The Lions now need a win over the visiting Green Bay Packers to secure a divisional title.
A loss to Green Bay coupled with a Washington victory over the New York Giants would eliminate the Lions from the playoff picture. Both the Redskins and the Giants hold the upper hand in tie-breakers with Detroit.
Detroit registered three 1st half touchdowns against Dallas, but were shutout the remainder of the game.
Zach Zenner tied the score when he took the handoff from Matt Stafford up the middle for a 7-yard run into the end zone. Later in the half, Stafford made the run in from a yard out to again draw even with the Cowboys.
The Lions went ahead 21-14 when Zenner scrambled 5 yards for the major, but Dallas knotted the score before the half ended. This was the first time the Lions rushed for three touchdowns in a game since an October 2013 home game, incidentally also against the Cowboys.
The 2nd half was all Cowboys as they shut down the Lions offense.
Detroit will now take on Green Bay on New Years Day in a winner take all match-up. A limited number of tickets were still available as of Monday afternoon.
