(WINDSOR, ON) – After being sidelined since early last season, Mitch Farrell made his return to the Windsor Lancers lineup against the Queen’s Gaels Saturday night and led them to a nail-biting 78-77 victory. The win was Windsor’s second straight and gives them a 1 1/2 game lead over Laurier in the OUA West, after beating York on Friday, 83-78.
Working with a short bench, head coach Chris Oliver relied heavily on his starting five. Windsor’s shooting lagged behind Queen’s, but defensively the Lancers restricted the number of chances for the Gaels and rode the effort home.
Windsor held a 2-point margin after the opening quarter but rallied to double up Queen’s 30-15 in the second 10 minutes. The Gaels out-scored Windsor by 16 points over the two remaining quarters, but came up just shy of the win, despite leading by 5 with 5 minutes on the clock.
Farrell had a team-high 25 points for Windsor in 33 minutes on the hardwood. Veteran guard Mike Rocca dropped 17 for the Lancers and fell short of a double-double with 7 helpers. Starter Luke Allin contributed 10 points while Lucas Orlita picked up 13 off the bench for the Blue and Gold.
Windsor will host the 2-and-8 Western Mustangs Saturday night at 8:00pm.
