(WINDSOR, ON) – Remaining undefeated in 2017, the Lancer men’s basketball team topped the Western Mustangs 85-78 last night at the St Denis Centre. The win keeps the Lancers four points ahead of the Laurier Golden Hawks and in first place in the OUA West with a 7-4 record while the Mustangs fall to 2-9 on the season.
Windsor came out strong to open the game and led 21-16 after the first quarter. The Lancers continued to control the game to start the 2nd, but the Ponies came back late in the frame to outscore Windsor by one. The Lancers held a narrow, 35-32 lead at the half.
Luke Allin had a solid first half for the Lancers, scoring 12 points in the first twenty minutes of play, while Western’s Jedson Tavrnier finished the half with 11.
In the second half, Mitch Farrell propelled the Lancers ahead of the Mustangs, scoring all 13 of his points in the final twenty minutes. He finished with the game’s only double-double by adding 11 boards to his point total.
Allin finished the day with a team-high 21 points and 8 rebounds while Mike Rocca chipped in 14 points, and Tyler Persaud and Micqueel Martin put up 10 and 11 points, respectively.
The Lancers will now head up to London on Saturday afternoon for game two of the home-and-home series with Western. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00pm and can be seen at OUA TV.
