(SARNIA, ON) – The St Clair men’s basketball team got back on the winning track with a 68-65 victory over Lambton in Sarnia Friday night. After starting the regular season with 4-straight wins, the Saints were on a 6-game skid before Friday’s victory.

St Clair can feel confident they are in the post-season hunt now, after distancing themselves from Lambton (3-8) and making life difficult for Redeemer (5-7) and Mohawk (4-7). The Saints are currently sitting in a tie for 4th place with Fanshawe (5-6), who they will host this Friday at the SportsPlex at 8:00pm.

A less than full St Clair roster made for an interesting road match-up. Uncharacteristically, the teams played a low scoring affair.

The Saints were game, taking a slight early advantage, but Lambton responded by overtaking the lead at 19-13 after the opening quarter. Lambton extended their lead to 29-18 early in the 2nd, but St Clair put together a 17-4 run to close the half with a 35-33 lead.

The teams played fairly even the rest of the game with the Saints keeping a slim upper hand over the Lions. The difference down the stretch was three triples from St Clair point guard Charles Baskin and Juwan Lynch.

In all, the Saints made nine 3-point baskets in the game and, even though they were out-rebounded 51-44, they converted 30 Lambton turnovers into 24 points. St Clair also shutout Lambton 16-0 in bench points.

Second-year swingman Lance Drummonds had one of his finest games of the season for St Clair by scoring 24 points while adding 8 rebounds and 4 steals, to go with 2 blocked shots.

Baskin finished with 19 points and helped his fellow Saints with 7 assists and 5 steals.

Anthony Limbombe had a solid game and, although he only scored 7 points, his 13 rebounds were important in the tight game.
