(WINDSOR, ON) – The St Clair men’s volleyball team wrapped up their regular season schedule this past weekend hosting two matches at the Sportsplex. Heading into the weekend the Saints had to win both matches and get some help to secure a playoff spot in the very competitive OCAA West Division.

Unfortunately, the Saints did their part, but they did not get the help they needed to head further into the season.

On Saturday, the Saints took on the Cambrian Golden Shield from Sudbury. St Clair got off to a strong start winning the first set 25-11. Cambrian bounced back to win the 2nd set 25-23. However, it was all Saints after that as they won the next two sets by scores of 25-13 and 25-19 to take the match 3-1.

Jared Niziolek led the way for the Saints offensively with 9 kills, 1 service ace, 2 stuff blocks, and 4 digs.

On Sunday afternoon, St Clair had another solid match, defeating the College Boreal Viperes 3-0. Game scores for Saints were 25-14, 25-12, and 25-12.

Mike Knight had a solid match for St Clair with 7 kills, 1 service ace, 1 stuff block, and 2 digs.

With the weekend wins, the Saints ended their regular season with a record of 9-9 and tied for 5th place. The men are currently ranked 8th in the OCAA.

However, due to tie breakers with Niagara and Sheridan, St Clair dropped to 7th place, one spot out of the playoffs. The Saints were only 2 wins out of third place in a very tight division.
