Lancers Major Award Nominations Announced

(WINDSOR, ON) – The Lancers Athletics has announced their major award nominees for the 2016-17 Windsor Lancers Evening of Excellence. The winners will be announced at the Lancers’ annual awards banquet, which will take place this Wednesday at the St Clair Centre for the Arts.

The nominees for University of Windsor female rookie of the year are Morgan Farrow from hockey, Lexi Pollard from volleyball, and Kayah Clarke from basketball. On the men’s side, rookie of the year nominees include Daniel Metcalfe from football, Pierce Johnson from volleyball, and Todd Ratchford from hockey.

The super sophomore awards are presented to the outstanding second year female and male athletes. The female nominees are Kaylee Anagnostopolous from basketball, Keely Baggio from soccer, and Reagan Kaufman from hockey. The male super sophomore nominees are Drew Desjarlis from football, John Moate from volleyball, and Justice Dundas from hockey.

The Captain’s Trophy is presented to the male and female captains who demonstrate outstanding leadership, both on and off the field, while also making a significant contribution to the overall success of the team.

Female nominees include Giulia Barile from soccer, Kelly Riccardi from golf, and Emily Omahen from track and field. Male nominees include Eli Pawliw from track and field, Blake Blondeel from hockey and Randy Beardy from football.

The IG Champions Cup is a department trophy that’s awarded each year to the men’s and women’s Lancer varsity team that best exemplifies what it takes to be a champion in the classroom, on the playing field, and throughout the community. The finalists for the IG Cup are Women’s Basketball, Lancer Golf, and Men’s Track and Field.

The Gino Fracas Coach of the Year category has three outstanding nominees this year. They include Steve Hart from women’s soccer, Gary Malloy from cross country, and Chantal Vallée from women’s basketball.

The prestigious DeMarco Awards are presented yearly to the top female and male student-athletes who best combine academics and athletics. The female nominees include Jillian Rops from hockey, Emily Prevost from basketball, and Sarah Mitton from track and field.

The male nominees for the DeMarco Award include Nick MacMackin from cross country/track and field, Mike Rocca from basketball, and Carlos Soares from soccer.

The Banner Shield is presented annually to the University of Windsor’s outstanding female athlete of the year. This year’s three nominees include Cheyanne Roger from basketball, Abby Hunt from soccer, and Krystin Lawrence from hockey and soccer.

The Olympic Shield is presented annually to the University of Windsor’s outstanding male athlete of the year. This year’s nominees are Corey Bellemore from cross country/track and field, Eli Pawliw from track and field, and Tarrence Crawford from football.

The award winners will be announced this Wednesday at the St Clair Centre for the Arts as part of the Windsor Lancers 2016-17 Evening of Excellence.
