(LONDON, ON) – The Windsor Clippers Junior B lacrosse club quickly asserted dominance over the London Blue Devils during their season opener on Wednesday. The Clippers scored early, often, and did not look back in a 21-4 massacre of their Far West Division opponent.

The score was already 11-1 at the end of the first, with captain Andrew Garant, Noah Bushnell, and rookie Jake Rosa all collecting two snipes apiece, while Chase Kavanaugh, Liam Leclair, Blain Wallace, James Morgan, and Alex Mayhead picked up singles.

London showed a little bit of life in the second as the two teams traded three goals each in the period. Scoring for Windsor was Garant twice, making his day’s total four, and Bushnell adding one for the hat-trick.

In the third, the Clippers buried the needle, running up the score with seven more goals.

Kavanaugh put up a natural hat-trick in the final act, bringing himself to four goals on the night, while rookie Nathan Salaris had a two-goal third and Brendan Wallace and Leclair also scored in the period.

Joel Evans started the game, allowing just two goals in the first half, and collecting the statistical win. Carsen Hebner finished the game out for the Clippers and allowed two in the second, but picked up the shutout period in the third.

“We knew coming into the game they weren’t a strong team, but the focus was on playing our game and getting everybody involved and familiar with our offence and defence during a game,” said Chase Kavanaugh after the win. “Offensively, we worked well the majority of the game, but we know we still have to work on a few things and get away from a few bad habits that can hurt us against those top end teams. But, we’re happy with the win and I know everybody is excited for Saturday.”

The Clippers’ home opener is slated for 7:00pm at Forest Glade Arena on Saturday when they host the Hamilton Bengals.
