(WINDSOR, ON) – The St Clair women’s basketball team found some more weapons, adding 5’ 10” forward Kirsten Zelina, from Wallaceburg, and 5’ 5” guard Anna Ulicny, of Belle River, to their incoming 2017-18 recruiting class.
Ulicny is a product of the very successful St Anne program and received All-Star recognition in 2016 in WECSSAA Tier I. She may see time for the Saints at both the point guard and shooting guard positions.
“Anna plays with a high IQ on the floor and possesses good range on her jump shot while also being a very good defender,” said Saints head coach Andy Kiss. “She is another excellent addition to the Saints women’s basketball team.”
St Clair will bolster the forward position for the Saints with the addition of Zelina. She also received All-Star acknowledgement in 2016 in LKSSAA for Wallaceburg District High School. As well, her Wallaceburg AirHawks club captured a D-I bronze medal recently at the U19 provincial championship.
“Kirsten plays with a high compete level at both ends of the floor and can knock down the 15-17 foot jump shot,” said Kiss. “With experience as a rugby player, she has no doubt made herself into a smart and physical defender. She is a tremendous pick-up for our program and we look forward to her putting on the Saints uniform next fall.”
Zelina will feel at home when she joins 4th-year forward Torrie Handsor and the incoming Jaimi Chauvin, who both hail from Wallaceburg. Chauvin, along with 1st-year players Logan and Jana Kucera, were all teammates in the Wallaceburg AirHawks club program, as well.
