(KINGSVILLE, ON) – The Greater Metro Junior ‘A’ Hockey League recently held its annual entry draft and the Kingsville Kings scored big. Preparing for their third season, after coming off a 29-8-0-5 season, the locals picked up several talented players who, along with returning veterans, could make the Kings a strong contender for the Russell Cup.
“We are very pleased with the selections we made,”said Kings’ president Tom Schinkelshoek. “It looks like several of these prospects could challenge for spots on this year’s team.”
Among the Kings picks are 5’10”, 165-pound Markuz Mezsargs. The Lativa-born forward had 45 points including 13 goals in just 41 games with the New York Aviators of the USPHL. His Aviators teammates Dalton Klein (11-26-37) and Ridge Powers (18-13-31) could also step up and be big contributors.
Taking advantage of Associate Coach Gauti Thormodsson’s ability to spot and recruit talent, the Kings selected five Iceland-born players.
The Kings look forward to having several more announcements in the upcoming weeks.
