Rahal Earns Pole In Race 1

(DETROIT, MI) – Driving the No. 15 Honda for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, Graham Rahal set a Belle Isle record en route to winning the pole for this afternoon’s first race in Detroit. Rahal logged a 114.374mph lap in 1:13.9681 to earn the P1 Award and better Simon Pagenaud’s mark from last year by 0.0698 seconds.

Rahal edged out Helio Castroneves who was penalized during a caution. The IndyCar series leader will start outside of Rahal this afternoon while Indianapolis 500 winner Takuma Sato jumped into the 3rd spot on the grid.

Alexander Rossi, Canada’s James Hinchcliffe, Scott Dixon, Pagenaud, Max Chilton, Josef Newgarden, and Charlie Kimball round out the top 10 qualifiers.
