(WINDSOR, ON) – Another memorable NBL Canada season is now behind us. A milestone for us personally, being our fifth anniversary.
Coming off of a season without a championship meant that we needed to make an adjustment during the 2016 offseason. The start of this year saw the team almost completely re-build itself from a player personnel perspective.
With a re-build, there are highs and lows, which we saw both of in plenty.
But, true to the Windsor Express style of hard work and determination to be a winner, head coach Bill Jones and his staff turned what was a slow start into a furious finish. Our team climbed out of last place to finish second in our division and top four in the league.
We advanced to the division finals for the fifth straight season and are the only team to have done that in league history.
We brought in new exciting players like Maurice Jones, the NBLC Rookie of the Year, Wally Ellenson, an All-Rookie team selection, Warren Ward, a first team All-Canadian selection, and Juan Pattillo, who led our team in scoring and rebounding and was one of only a few players in the league to average a double-double.
The season did not end the way we wanted; that being a championship. But, we are extremely proud of what was accomplished this year.
We cannot say thank you enough from the unwavering support that you show us game after game. Our organization feeds off of the community and we love to interact as much as possible with our great fans.
We truly believe that we have the best fans in the league and look forward to continuing our journey with you.
I hope to see you all out and about our great city during the summer and I know for sure that I will see you next year on the court.
