(TECUMSEH, ON) – The visiting Woodslee Jr Orioles were swept in a double header played Saturday by the Tecumseh Thunder in ECSL baseball.
In game 1, Tecumseh jumped into a 3-0 lead in their half of the 1st inning and then added an 11-run 4th to win it going away 14-2. Winning pitcher Rob Blunck put in 5 innings, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits.
Offensively, the Thunder were led by Geoff Rankin who was 2-for-2 with 2 RBIs in 3 plate appearances. Tecumseh had five players with 2 RBIs.
Things didn’t fare any better for Woodslee in game 2 as the Thunder continued their domination with a 9-2 win. Starter Craig Towe faced just 5 batters before leaving the game with an injury. Jason Horvat was credited with the win in relief, giving up no runs on 2 hits and 2 strikeouts spread over 11 batters. Chris Morand pitched in a no-save situation.
Scott Van Hende stroked 3 hits, including a double, and scored a run to lead the Thunder offense. Kyle Connelly was 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs and striking out once. Interestingly, Anthony Pettica was twice hit by pitches during the game to go along with getting beaned in the earlier in the day.
Tecumseh is now in 4th place with an early 3-1 record. They trail Woodslee Sr by 2 games, but have 4 games in hand after 3 rainouts. They next meet Harrow Sr tonight at 7:00pm, as long as the rain holds off.
