(TECUMSEH, ON) – The St Clair Green Giants improved to 10-4 after sweeping the Grand River Loggers from Grand Haven, MI, on Wednesday night. The win improves the Green Giants record to 4-1 at home this season.
In a game that had a little bit of everything, including a “little league home run” by Nick Enrico, St Clair was able to take control in the bottom of the 5th when they put up 6 runs to take a commanding 7-1 lead. The Green Giants were able to produce the 6 run outburst due to some opportunistic hitting after the Loggers made 4 errors in the frame.
With the commanding lead the Green Giants were able to put the game in cruise control and went on to win 8-2.
Starting pitcher Tyler Whitbread was dominant in his third start of the year, going 7 innings, giving up a single run, and striking out 2. With the win Whitbread improves to 2-0 on the season with a dazzling 1.56 ERA.
It was a team effort on the offensive side of things as every starter reached base at least once with six different players scoring runs. Jalen Thomas was 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored, and 2 RBIs.
The Green Giants will continue their home stand tonight when they welcome the Lake Erie Monarchs from Flat Rock, MI, to town. The first pitch is slated for 7:05pm at Lacasse Park, in Tecumseh, with Stephen Rausa schedule to start for the Green Giants.
