(WINDSOR, ON) – The St Clair varsity soccer teams opened up their OCAA regular season at home on Saturday as they faced the Redeemer Royals from Ancaster. A very young and rookie laden women’s team women got off to a great start by defeating the Royals 13-0.

St Clair opened the scoring in the 2nd minute on a goal by Julia Albeartie and never looked back. Cassandra Rose-Medeiros led the way with 4 goals. Cassie Nicholas, Albeartie, and Leah Berenz each had 2 tallies. Singles were scored by Ryan Morneau, Jaclyn French, and Melanie Jubenville.

Tory Brown had a solid match in goal, earning the clean sheet.

The Saints roster this year features 11 rookies, 2 transfers and only 5 returning players.

The men had a very strong match, coming away with a convincing 3-0 win over Redeemer. Matt Montaleone got the Saints on the board early by capitalizing on a bad turnover in the 8th minute. Martin Nyul put the Saints up 2-0 placing the ball into the top corner after a nice cross in the 27th minute.

St Clair put the pressure on in the 2nd half and went up 3-0 on a tally by Korede Adepitan in the 65th minute. The Saints had 8 shots on goal in the second half compared to 1 for the Royals.

Shane Beaton earned the shutout and win while the St Clair defenders were strong in front of him throughout the match.

The Saints men’s roster this year features 13 rookies and 6 returning players

The men and women resume their home schedule on Tuesday night with the first match kicking off at 5pm when they host the Lambton Lions at the Main Campus Field.
