(ETOBICOKE, ON) – The St Clair men’s baseball team moved their record to 5-1 atop the OCAA standings after splitting with the Humber Hawks at Etobicoke’s Connorvale Park, Saturday afternoon. St Clair won the opening game by a score of 7-2, but were shutout, for the first time in their OCAA history, 6-0 in the second game of the doubleheader.
Pitcher Kyle Breitner spread out 7 hits while surrendering 2 earned runs for St Clair over 6 innings in the opener to earn the win. Curtis Cunningham, Kevin Dion, and Carson Burke each had a pair of hits in the victory for the Saints, with Patrick Kibble contributing two RBIs.
In the second game, St Clair could only muster a single hit from Matt Bondy with starting pitcher Seth Chauvin taking the loss on the mound. The Saints defense faltered with 3 fielding errors in the contest.
On Sunday, the Saints improved to 7-1 after sweeping the Durham Lords 9-0 and 10-7.
In the opening game, St Clair pitcher Micah Harris threw a complete game shutout, spreading 5 hits and 1 walk, to go with 7 strikeouts, over 7 innings. Dion, Burke, and Matt Brooks each stroked two hits to pace the Saints offense. Garik Godard, however, carried the big stick, clubbing a homerun as part of his 3 runs batted in.
In the outing, the Saints put up 10 runs in the first three innings, but then had to hold on for a 3-run win. Taylor Pappin pitched 6 innings for St Clair to earn the victory. He gave up 4 earned runs and 8 hits, but struck out 5 batters.
Bondy, Godard, Burke, and Brendan Renaud all had 2 hits in the game. Burke terrorized the bases again for the Saints with 3 stolen bases while Bondy and Godard each had 2 RBIs.
Godard capped a great day by finishing up on the mound in relief for the game’s final two outs.
The Saints are next in action Wednesday when they host the Windsor Lancers at Lacasse Park in exhibition play starting at 7:00pm.
