Adepitan Counts 6 Against Mohawk

(WINDSOR, ON) – The St Clair varsity soccer teams continued their OCAA regular season schedules when they faced the Mohawk Mountaineers from Hamilton on Saturday afternoon at the Main Campus Field.

The St Clair women’s undefeated season came to an end with a tough 3-2 loss. The Saints probably deserved a better fate in this match based on time of possession, shot attempts and shots on goal, however all that matters is the final score.

Mohawk got off to a great start by scoring goals in the 8th and 11th minute on strikes from in close. The play was pretty even for the rest of the half until the Mountaineers went up 3-0 in the 38th minute.

The Saints had 11 shot attempts in the first half while Mohawk had 6. The Mohawk keeper made some solid saves in the first half, stopping all 6 shots she faced.

The women were the dominant team in the second half and finally got on the scoreboard in the 56th minute, on a goal by Jaclyn French. St Clair continued to pressure, but could not score again until the 76th minute on a nice effort by Ryan Morneau.

The Saints pressed hard for the rest of the half, but could not get the equalizer on the Mohawk keeper. They had 18 shot attempts in the second half compared to only 2 for Mohawk, as the ball barely left the visitor’s side of the pitch. The Mohawk keeper faced 11 shots on goal, turning aside 9 of them. Final shots on goal for the game were 17 to 6 for St Clair.

With the loss the Saints record fell  to 3-1 on the season and are in 3rd place in the OCAA West Division. Mohawk improved to 4-1 on the year.

The St Clair women are currently ranked 5th in the OCAA. They are now on the road for their next two matches this weekend against Redeemer and and a replay against Mohawk.
