Morneau Lifts Saints Over Knights

(WELLAND, ON) – The  St Clair Saints women’s soccer team improved to 6-2-1 on the season with a 1-0 win over the Niagara Knights on Saturday afternoon in Welland. The Saints played well and probably could have won by more, but the Niagara keeper made some great saves throughout the match to keep it close.

Rookie Ryan Morneau scored the only St Clair goal in the 26th minute. The Saints had 19 shot attempts compared to 8 for the Knights.

Niagara’s keeper made 11 saves while Tory Brown only had to make 1 to earn the clean sheet.

With the win St Clair is now guaranteed at least 3rd place in the OCAA West Division with 1 regular season game remaining. The Saints can still catch second place Mohawk with a win in their final match.

The Saints will take on the 1st place Fanshawe Falcons Tuesday afternoon in London. Either way, the St Clair women are guaranteed a home playoff game on October 22 at the Main Campus Field.
