(WELLAND, ON) – The St Clair women’s basketball team is now 1-2 on the season after splitting a pair of OCAA West Region league games on the road this past weekend. St Clair defeated Redeemer in Ancaster, on Saturday night, by a score of 91-63, but fell 82-62 to Niagara in Welland, Sunday afternoon.
In Saturday’s win St Clair’s 5th year swing player, Shannon Kennedy, had an outstanding game by scoring 27 points and adding 12 rebounds for the double-double. Kennedy barely missed a triple-double with an enormous 8 blocks to go with 2 steals.
Rookie guard Logan Kucera also reached double figures, scoring 14 points for the Saints.
The Lady Saints held a 43-31 margin at halftime, but were consistent down the stretch, shooting 48 per cent from the field.
On Sunday, the Saints were sluggish out of the gate and fell behind 22-10 after the opening frame. St Clair turned it around in the 2nd and only trailed 34-26 at halftime. However, Niagara put up 27 points in the 3rd quarter and the Saints had to play catch up the remainder of the game.
Kucera had another good performance, scoring 20 points to go with 7 boards. Third-year forward Rylee Welsh scored 15 points and tossed in 10 rebounds for the double-double.
St Clair managed to hit just one triple in the game as opposed to 11 makes by the home team.
