(WINDSOR, ON) – The St Clair men’s baseball team has closed the books on another successful season. After celebrating a regular season pennant and OCAA Provincial Championship, the year was capped off by a National Championship.
But, much of the program’s success in recent years has been due to the contributions of 5th year pitcher Kyle Breitner, of Mississauga.
As part of the championship years, Breitner has compiled an astounding 37-3 record on the mound with a sparkling 1.52 ERA in over 280 innings pitched. With his 11th and final strikeout in this year’s National Championship semi-final win over Holland College, he reached the milestone of 300 total Ks during his Saints career.
His playoff record in five seasons was a splendid 8-1, with his only loss coming on a 2-1 defeat by Brock. But, true to form, Breitner came back in the championship game, earning a save in the final inning.
Individual OCAA honours for Breitner include 4 All-Star team selections, 3 Pitcher of the Year Awards, as well as 1 Player of the Year Award. He was selected to the OCAA Championship All-Star team in 2016 and named to the National Championship All-Star team, as the Top Right Handed Pitcher, in each of the last two years. Breitner was also named the OUA/OCAA Championship Top Pitcher in 2013.
St Clair has also named him 4 times as the Top Pitcher on the Saints to go along with a pair of MVP awards.
Breitner has helped the Saints baseball program win almost every major championship set in front of them over the past five seasons, with the only blemish being a runner up finish at National Championship in 2016. Since the inception of the OCAA Baseball league in 2013, St Clair has been the only champion in both the regular season as well as the playoffs, amassing a remarkable 97-10 overall record.
The accomplishment includes a perfect 15-0 record in the OCAA Provincial Conference Championship tournament.
Additionally, St Clair won two consecutive OUA/OCAA Championships in 2013 and 2014, besting the finest teams from across the province.
