Veterans Lead Lancers Over GTA Squads

(WINDSOR, ON) – The Windsor Lancers extended their OUA season opening winning streak to 3 games with a pair of wins over the weekend. The victories put the Lancers into 1st place in the OUA West with 6 points, tied with Western and holding a game in hand.

Friday night Windsor dominated all four quarters against Ryerson toward a 62-42 win. A 6-point lead in the 1st quarter turned into a 14-point margin by halftime. The Lancers added 4 more points to the lead in the 3rd before taking their foot off the gas in the final frame.

Carly Steer logged the game’s high output with 21 points for the Lancers while starting forward Emily Prevost posted a double-double with 16 points, on 54 per cent shooting, and 10 boards.

Junior guard Tyra Blizzard also chipped in double digits with 13 points in 28 minutes. Windsor rookie Olivia Osamusali was on the ball all night with 11 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 steals.

Twenty-four hours later, the Lancers hosted a tougher Toronto Varsity Blues squad, battling to an 83-60 win at St Denis. Prevost and Blizzard again led the way for Windsor with a game high 1 and 17 points, respectively.

Windsor’s Nyamuoch Teny put up 14 points coming off the bench for the Lancers and 2nd-year starting guard Kaylee Anagnostopoulos was credited with 9 points and 5 assists.

This Friday will see Windsor in a showdown with Western in London. They’ll remain on the road through the November 17-18 weekend with back-to-back games against Carleton and Ottawa.
