Lancers Improve To 2-1

(WINDSOR, ON) – The Windsor Lancers had their hands full over the weekend as they split a pair of OUA home basketball matches against teams from Toronto. The Blue and Gold are now tied with Western in 2nd place in the OUA West after having fallen off the pace with 1st place Brock.

Friday evening the Lancers tipped off against the Ryerson Rams at St Denis in Windsor. The Rams are part of a 7-way tie for 1st in the OUA East and helped their cause with an 81-68 win over Windsor.

Lucas Orlita, Marcus Jones, and Chris Polionato scored double digits for Windsor, 13, 11, and 10 points respectively. Starting veteran guard Mike Rocca, from Sarnia, pulled down 14 rebounds and dished off 6 assists in a losing effort.

The Lancers got back on track Saturday when they outlasted the Toronto Varsity Blues 94-79 in front of 1,500 fans. Rocca was on fire as he put up 59 per cent from the floor and a game high 27 points. Orlita also hit for 20 and three other players each scored in double digits en route to victory.

The Lancers are now on an extended 5-game road trip over the next 2 weeks, with stops at Western, Carleton, Ottawa, Queen’s, and York. They return home to the friendly confines of St Denis over the December 1-2 weekend with tilts against Nipissing and Laurentian. Windsor will tip off at 8pm Friday against the Lakers and turn around for a 4pm matinee with the Voyageurs on Saturday.
