UWindsor Basketball On The OUA Radar

(WINDSOR, ON) – While the 5-1 UWindsor women’s team has a share of first place in the OUA West, the 2-4 men’s team is still struggling to keep with the leaders of the pack.  Both teams will be traveling to Kingston to take on their Queen’s Golden Gaels counterparts tonight.

The Lancer women kick things off in the Athletics & Recreation Centre at 6pm against the 5-1 Gaels, whom are in 2nd place in the OUA East.  Then the Lancer men will jump it against the 4-2 Gaels men’s team at 8pm.

On their return trip to southwestern  Ontario tomorrow, the teams will stop  over in Toronto, where the women’s team will face the 4-3 York Lions, who sit in 3rd place in the OUA East.

The Lancer men will seek to gain some easier ground against the 2-5 Lions at 8pm on the York campus tomorrow. Both of the weekend games are very winnable for the men’s team and will be a good barometer of what to expect from the Lancers the first half of the season.

I am very excited to recently be given an opportunity to serve as your Sports Editor. While my educational background is not steeped in the study of literature nor journalism per se, I formally learned the craft of research reporting in pursuit of my undergraduate Bachelor of Human Kinetics (Hons) and a professional degree in Education at the University of Windsor, as a student-athlete. Thus, it’s not ironic that my first foray as a sports writing intern was with The Lance student newspaper in 2010-11. Along with some sport broadcasting with CJAM radio and OUA.TV, as part of sports media team of 2013-14 Lancer A award winners. These experiences in turn lead me to begin broadcasting and writing for the Windsor Express of the National Basketball League of Canada for WE-TV and The Square, respectively. Email Kim Elliott
