Western and Laval Set To Square Off In Vanier Cup

(HAMILTON, ON) – The UWO Mustangs haven’t made it to the Vanier Cup since 2008,wherein they were set back by the  Laval Rouge et Or. Once again these two teams will lock horns, as Laval is looking to repeat as the CIS champions in Hamilton tomorrow. Laval comfortably defeated the Calgary Dino’s 35-23 out West in the semi-final Mitchell Bowl last weekend, in a rematch of the Vanier championship last year to earn their berth into the final this year.

While the Mustangs (who the OUA Yates Cup champions thus year) defeated the AUS champion, Acadia Axemen, 81-3 to win the semi-final Uteck Bowl in record fashion.  Where Western has won the cup 6 times in a record 13 appearances in the 53 year cup tradition, Laval has won the cup a record 9 times.

Who will come out on top this year is anybody’s guess~

I am very excited to recently be given an opportunity to serve as your Sports Editor. While my educational background is not steeped in the study of literature nor journalism per se, I formally learned the craft of research reporting in pursuit of my undergraduate Bachelor of Human Kinetics (Hons) and a professional degree in Education at the University of Windsor, as a student-athlete. Thus, it’s not ironic that my first foray as a sports writing intern was with The Lance student newspaper in 2010-11. Along with some sport broadcasting with CJAM radio and OUA.TV, as part of sports media team of 2013-14 Lancer A award winners. These experiences in turn lead me to begin broadcasting and writing for the Windsor Express of the National Basketball League of Canada for WE-TV and The Square, respectively. Email Kim Elliott
