(LaSALLE, ON) – The LaSalle Vipers challenged the Leamington Flyers at the Vollmer Centre Wednesday with their sights set on getting a strong hold on 2nd place in the GOJHL Western Conference. The pre-game ceremony featured Vipers defenceman Frank Zak receiving the league’s Denfenceman of the Month award for December.

The 1st period saw scoring open up at the 4:11 mark with a goal from Manny Silverio, with assists from Gianluca Pizzuto and Abdul Abouzeeni. Silverio later picked up an assist on a goal by younger brother Kory while on a power play, with three and a half minutes remaining in the period.

The 2nd period commenced with an unassisted goal from LaSalle’s Aaron Shaw. The period, however, saw no further scoring and closed out with a 3-1 score.

The younger Silverio again made his presence known in the 3rd period, scoring 7 minutes in from a pass from Eric Kirby and Tyler Russell. Shaw netted his second of the game just a minute later, extending the lead to four goals with help from Stefan Dobrich and Jack Bowler.

Dylan Weston of the Flyers grabbed the final goal of the game when, with 7 minutes on the clock, he closed scoring at 5-2.

The win gives the Vipers a 2-point lead on the Flyers, who had shared 2nd place with LaSalle going into the match.

The Vipers head to St Thomas on Friday, looking to maintain their position in the conference standings.

Last night’s game was sponsored by Racicot Chrysler and Country 95.9, who teamed up to send lucky Vipers fans home with tickets to see Brett Kissel live at the Chrysler Theater on February 11.
