(WINDSOR, ON) – The GMHL’s hottest commodity, the Windsor Aces, extended their winning streak to 7 games after an 8-2 thrashing of the Toronto Predators at Adie Knox Arena on Sunday. The Aces captured all three game stars en route to their 13th win of the season.
Toronto kicked off the scoring early in the 1st period, but Windsor replied a short time later as Milos Nikolic tied it up at 3:54. When Mark Gangnon put the Aces ahead at 8:18, it was to stay. Alec Segers netted his 29th goal of the season before the period ended with Windsor up 3-1.
Segers then opened the 2nd period by putting the Aces in front by a 3-goal margin. James Brooks made it 5-1 for Windsor before the game turned listless for the remainder of the frame. The Aces added three more goals in the 3rd as Segers completed the hat trick and Gangnon and Brooks quickly fired two in reply to a Toronto tally just past the midway point.
Belarus goaltender Ilya Kachko kicked out 39 shots for his 7th win in 12 starts while Preds keeper Sebastian Morrison faced 46 pucks directed his way in the Toronto goal.
Windsor’s next scheduled game will be a test of their mettle as the division-leading St George Ravens arrive in town on January 20 at 7:30pm. There is no rest for the wicked as the Aces travel to meet the 3rd place Niagara Whalers the following night in Port Colborne.
