(WINDSOR, ON) – The Windsor Aces are now 5 points up on the 8th place Oshawa Riverkings after an 11-2 thrashing Saturday night at Adie Knox Arena. The win provided some cushion between Windsor and Oshawa as well as drew the Aces to within 3 points of the 6th place Northumberland Stars.
First Star on the night was Windsor’s Brett Mennear who recorded 2 goals and 3 assists in leading the Aces to victory. Mark Gangnon (2,2) and James Brooks (1,3) were the 2nd and 3rd stars, respectively.
Five different goal scorers punctuated the 1st period as the Aces skated out to a 5-0 lead. Mennear, Connor Shipton, Alec Segers, Gangnon, and Layne Gouin each netted tallies for Windsor.
Gangnon and Brooks made it 7-0 by the 7-minute mark of the middle period. Oshawa ruined Alex Jones’ shutout bid at 15:03, but Viacheslav Chegrintcev replied in kind for the Aces.
Kristers Bormanis, Segers, and Mennear stepped up the score in the 3rd period before the Riverkings deposited a meaningless goal with under 5 minutes to play. Bormanis also registered 4 points on the night with 3 helpers in addition to the 3rd period strike.
Windsor (15-21-0) is 9-and-3 in their last dozen games and will take the show on the road when they travel to London this Saturday for a tilt with the Lakers. The Aces are enjoying a 4-0 series lead over the Lakers this season. The teams will complete a home-and-home showdown on Sunday at Adie Knox Arena at 7:30pm.
