Kennedy Strong as Saints Stumble

(LONDON, ON) – The St Clair women’s basketball team (10-5) travelled to Kitchener last Saturday and defeated the Conestoga Condors (4-12) by a score of 78-50. In the process, the Saints maintained their 4th place position in the OCAA West Region, which means a home playoff game.

The Lady Saints built an early 20-17 lead after the opening quarter and took the momentum into the halftime intermission with a 38-28 advantage. St Clair put a stranglehold on the game by outscoring Conestoga 18-8 in the 3rd quarter and increased their lead in the 4th to cruise to the win.

St Clair scored 27 points off 22 Conestoga turnovers in the contest.

Shannon Kennedy had another fine game, topping all scorers with 20 points, including 4 triples, and added 7 rebounds for the Saints. Anna Ulicny made 4 triples of her own on her way to 16 points to go with 5 steals.

Twin sister guards, Logan and Jana Kucera, scored 14 and 12 points respectively for the Saints. Logan added 8 rebounds while Jana recorded 5 assists, which led St Clair in those categories.

Last night, the Saints dropped a match to the Fanshawe Falcons by an 82-58 score, in London.

St Clair started the 1st quarter on a 14-2 run, but led just 16-12 by the end of the frame. At halftime, the Falcons had completed the comeback and led 35-29.

Fanshawe had a 61-41 lead going into the 4th quarter and built on the margin through the final 10 minutes.

Kennedy again topped the Saints with 21 points and 9 rebounds.

St Clair will try to get back into their winning way with a February 11 game vs the Niagara Knights at the SportsPlex beginning at 1pm. The Saints and Knights both share 4th place with 20 points and identical 10-6 records.
