(WINDSOR, ON) – The St Clair women’s volleyball team wrapped up their OCAA regular season with a split at home this past weekend.
On Friday night, the Saints took on the Mohawk Mountaineers and suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 loss. After struggling and losing the first two sets, the Saints bounced back to take the next two, but came up just short in the fifth.
Game scores for Mohawk were 25-21, 25-20, 22-25, 9-25, and 15-13.
Kaila Crough led the way offensively with 15 kills, 3 service aces, 1 stuff block, and 6 digs. Jessica Masse also had a solid match with 14 kills, 5 stuff blocks, and 5 digs.
The women are currently ranked 2nd in Ontario and 13th in Canada. The win improved Mohawk’s record to 10-6 where they were ranked 6th in the OCAA heading into the match.
On Saturday, the Saints took on the Conestoga Condors and came away with a solid 3-0 win. Game scores for St Clair were 25-13, 25-17, and 26-24.
Kiana Gelissen had a solid match with 5 kills, 2 stuff blocks, and 1 service ace over 2 sets. Andie Suthers also chipped in with 6 kills in 2 sets.
The loss dropped Conestoga’s record to 3-14 on the season.
The women ended the regular season with a record of 13-5 which is good for 3rd place in the tough OCAA West Division. The Saints will now host the Georgian Grizzlies, who finished 6th in the East Division, on Saturday, February 17 at 7pm at the Sportsplex.
The winner of the match will advance to the OCAA Championship in Toronto the following weekend.
